The PORTAGE — a bar that is a welcome station to Cable and a gateway to the majesty of the Northwoods and Bayfield County. The project started in 2014. Originally planned for a simple renovation of the old Corner Bar, the work evolved into a required demolition, excavation of the lot and whole new building. A massive fire destroyed the nearly finished building in December of 2018. After a year of planning, the owners committed to rebuild starting over from scratch. Delays hobbled the project due to the pandemic, but the team and dedicated partners have pulled off an amazing project that we hope everyone in the community will enjoy and experience. The Portage is a public house built for the community. Everyone is welcome and invited. EVERYONE.

We are a bar that serves simple but tasty food. The PORTAGE is built around an extensive program of bottle wines, fresh cold tap beers and a full range of premium spirits and specialty cocktails. We are committed to being much more than just a bar, we are going to be a house of entertainment and experience using the simple but purposely designed building to bring music, games, dance and fun to the community. The PORTAGE site offers large outdoor patios, greenspace, a fire pit and our very own cabina.
